threesixty° is a beauty campaign organised by a bunch of fun-filled students from the final semester of Diploma in Communication, Taylor's College. The campaign aims to change the perception of beauty in the mind of individuals in today's society. So basically we are here to tell you - YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL IN YOUR OWN WAYS! (And you don't have to look like Beyonce or Angelina Jolie or David Beckham to look beautiful!)

We have organised a series of activities, such as futsal tournament, our launch, workshops, roadshows and last but not least, our True You Ambassador Search, in search of a role model that represents beauty as a whole. The 360° Affair is our final event.

The event is set to be a great blast with an exciting line-up of activities for the night with the appearance of our celebrity spokesperson, Daniel Tan and famed DJ Goldfish. The main highlight will be our True You Ambassador Search. The 5 finalist from the search will give a round of performance, and the winner will be crowned the True You Ambassador of the year, and walk away with RM 2500 worth of cash prizes!

MUMBAI: Indian models flaunted their flesh at the country's top fashion event, ditching the skinny look for healthy curves and joining the global backlash against "size zero".

With deeper cleavages and ampler derrieres, Indian models are generally better endowed than their Western counterparts, but that has not stopped them winning top global beauty pageants.

India followed Madrid last year by banning underweight models from the catwalk, saying it wanted to project an image of beauty and health, not starvation.

The diktat has forced organisers of India's Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai to watch out for excessively skinny models.

"We don't want to project a wrong image and promote unhealthy habits," said Ravi Krishnan, the event's consultant.

At the five-day show, skirts accentuated curvy hips and sensuous tops revealed plump bust lines, as the focus of designers and local fashionistas seemed to shift to fitness and health rather than the stick-thin look.

The show's organisers said they ran a check on models to find out if any of them suffered from eating disorders like anorexia or bulimia. The health code applied to male models as well.

"My models are healthy and beautiful and they can all accentuate my clothes very well," said Abhishek Dutta, who presented his Autumn/Winter collection on Wednesday.

Since 1994, when Indian models Sushmita Sen and Aishwarya Rai became Miss Universe and Miss World respectively, modelling has become the aspiration of millions of Indian girls.

Indian health experts say many girls in India's cities and small towns were suffering from the brittle bone disease, osteoporosis, and anorexia due to strict dieting.

Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder where sufferers starve themselves due to an obsessive fear of getting fat.

It has the highest fatality rate of any psychiatric illness, with 13 to 18 per cent of sufferers dying, most commonly due to heart disease or suicide, health experts say.

"We all follow rules and eat healthy. But maybe our diet is different," model Poonam Nath said.

The fashion industry has been defending itself against sometimes fierce criticism over recent months that its idealised versions of femininity led women to eating disorders.

The United Nations says India is home to 57 million of the world's 146 million malnourished children under the age of five.

But at the same time the country's growing middle class is also grappling with lifestyle ailments typical in the West, from obesity to anorexia.

Does anyone ever think about how the overload of "perfect" images of models and celebrities in the media affects the average males and females? The idea of the media's (and consequently, everybody else's) "ideal" beauty often makes a "normal" human being self-conscious -- even if they have nothing to be self-conscious about.

There is a definite impact these "role models/celebrities" have on viewers, be it male or female. The ideal person they want to be is a what they see in the media everyday - and the emphasis is very much on external appearance.

What most people don't realize is that every image of a model or celebrity in a fashion or beauty magazine (or catalog) has been touched-up using the latest computer technology to remove bulges, pimples, stretch marks, etc.

Beyond that, there are about 100-300 professional photographs taken for each published image you see. They are taken from the absolute best angle in perfect lighting with the clothes pinned just so. And as if that wasn't enough, the models hair and makeup is always professionally done and is constantly touched up by a makeup artist and hair stylist standing by to make sure nothing looks less-than-perfect!

Why A Beauty Campaign?

The definition of beauty is narrowing in today’s world. Nowadays, beauty seems to be based on physical appearance. The idea of ‘beauty’ is referred to the idea of ‘physical attractiveness,’ (Findings of the Global Study on Women, Beauty & Well-being, 2004).

Through the findings of the Global Study on Women, Beauty & Well-being, commissioned by Dove, a Unilever Beauty Brand in September 2004, we have discovered that:

Only 2% of women across the globe describe themselves as beautiful.
4 in 10 women across the globe strongly agree that they do not feel comfortable describing themselves as beautiful.
48% of all women strongly agree with the statement that: “when I feel less beautiful, I feel worse about myself in general.”

The first and second statements had shown that the idea of beauty is indeed narrow and unattainable for most women, whereas the latter statement showed that how beauty can affect women’s self-esteem and happiness.

We believe that self-realization and self-care could make women feel beautiful. Hence, through this project we, threesixty° will educate and nurture optimistic and healthy adolescents. Moreover, we are not only focusing on female adolescents but male adolescents as well. we aim...

We are the Public Relations students of the final semester in Diploma in Communication at Taylor’s College. Most importantly, all of us have a common goal to achieve, which is to change the perception of beauty in the minds of adolescents who are in the age range of 17 to 25.

We have rediscovered the meaning of beauty and we strongly feel that others should know it as well. We called ourselves ‘threesixty°’ as we endeavour in promoting beauty as a whole. Beauty as a whole covers inner and outer beauty.

There are 3 angles in evaluating beauty such as, the mind, the soul and the body. In short, individuals with healthy body and great personality are beautiful.
